Why we love BMW at Le Mans

Here at PlateMeister we have a soft spot for BMW at Le Mans.

1999 being the first year the PlateMeister founders ventured to Le Mans to witness an epic, the amazing BMW V12 LMR overcoming the odds to take BMW's first overall victory. We're also huge Rossi fans, with 2024 seeing Valentino's Le Mans debut in a works M4 LMGT3.

BMW are one of the most storied manufacturers at Le Mans with class wins dating from 1939, and fan favourites with the art car and some of the most iconic cars ever raced including the 3.0 CSL of the 1970s, group 4 M1's of the 1980's, winning engine in the McLaren F1 GTR of 1995, works entered McLaren F1 GTR short tails in 1996 and long tails in 1997, Williams developed and run V12 LM prototype of 1998 and of course overall 1999 winner the V12 LMR prototype.

2024 Le Mans sees the debut of the 20th BMW Art Car: the No.20 M Hybrid V8 Hypercar will run in a design by French artist Julie Mehretu being one of the two works Hypercar entires attempting overall victory, alongside two works M4's in LMGT3 which include Rossi in the No.46. We can't wait.
